Brown Family Extravaganza

These past couple of months have been crazy for us. Apparently, we’re a pretty popular place to visit. That wouldn’t have anything to do with our little Lucy, would it? Or maybe our proximity to Walt Disney World?

We spent an entire week at Walt Disney World for our self-proclaimed “Brown Family Extravaganza.” 2009 is a big year for my wife’s family, and we were more than willing to celebrate each birthday and anniversary. The seven of us rented a multi-bedroom suite at Disney’s Saratoga Springs resort. It happened to be the rainiest week of the year so far, but that didn’t stop us from having a great time exploring everything Disney.

Highlights

• We rented a boat to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks from Bay Lake. It was one of the coolest things you could ever do! They took us around the lake for a half-hour and then we got to sit and watch the fireworks directly in front of the Castle and Main Street. The music magically piped in from somewhere, which just added to the magic. (I’ll post videos soon.) 
• The Hoop-De-Doo Review is a walloping good time! The food and drinks are great, the performers are full of energy and the wait staff is fantastic. It was a definite favorite of the week! 
• Star Wars Weekends are so much fun (if you’re into Star Wars). You even get to watch the crazies (or should I say “dedicated” fans) parading around in full garb.

I could go on and on of all the fun times we had, but I’ll save it for when I edit the videos together. If you need tips for your next trip to Disney World, be sure to let us know. I’d be glad to help you plan your time!

5 New Things at 5 Months

1. Rice Cereal
2. Uncle Chase
3. Camping on the Gulf Coast
4. Avocados (disgusting, fine by me and hopefully she won’t like yorkshire pudding either)
5. Zucchini (fantastic!)

It’s time to eat. And just like her mother, Lucy LOVES to eat. We started out with rice cereal. Next up avocados and just like Lucy’s Great-Papa Brown she does not like Banana Pears. Her current favorite food (of a total of three) is definitely zucchini. Dinner time is now spent with Lucy in her high chair around our dining room table. Okay, Wedding Party, when you gave us our dining room table did you think we would feed our first child at it?!

Just after turning 5 Months, Lucy met her Uncle Chase for the first time. Uncle Chase was generous enough to allow Grandma Cathy to tag along as well. Lucy skipped school (well, day care) and played all day with Grandma and Uncle Chase. We spent Easter together and with our dear friend Mickey. Grandma and Uncle Chase also were here to celebrate Quinn’s birthday. Did you know you can get in free to Walt Disney World on your birthday? (Hint...Come visit! Check out our Visitor Calendar)

Our little Roberts‘ Family took our first vacation together. We headed north to the Gulf Coast and camped for one night. Lucy ended up with a couple of bug bites (nice work Mom and Dad) but overall we survived. It’s incredible how much more stuff you have to pack with a little one. Lucy was quite the celebrity everywhere we went.

Lucy at 4-Months

We’re quickly approaching Lucy’s fifth month, and I just realized that I haven’t even posted her 4-month photos yet! So without further ado, here some of the great Lucy moments in history. See the Lucy: 4-Months gallery.

We had some great moments this month, including Valentine’s Day at the Magic Kindgom and dinner at Tony’s on Main Street. Then, we went all out for Lucy’s first Oscars (see the Oscars 2009 gallery). To finish up the month, “Aunt” Kathryn visited and we had lots of fun hopping our Disney World. Parenting isn’t always easy (you know...dealing with bouts of fussiness, getting sick, and not always sleeping). But somehow it’s all worth it.

Lucy, Live from the Red Carpet

A tradition in our household is to watch the Oscars every year. This usually includes a fancy meal, cloth napkins and fine china. It’s really just an excuse to have a fun night at home and cook up some new recipes while watching the many hours of the Academy Awards on television. This year was the first time our little Lucy was here to enjoy the Oscars.

New Video Podcast

You may have noticed that we’ve been linking to some of our videos on the blog recently. Well, that’s because Quinn pulled out the old video camera and started shooting some footage again.

To make it easier to see all of our videos in one place, you’ll notice a new Movies tab at the top of our blog. This is where we’ll post all of the current videos. As an added bonus, you can now subscribe to our podcast in iTunes. This way, you’ll always have the latest videos...and you can even transfer them to your iPhone, Apple TV or other non-Apple devices.

Three Months Already?!?

My, how time flies! Today marks Lucy’s three-month birthday. We’ll never stop saying this, but we can’t believe how big she’s getting. Her big personality is starting to show, and we can’t get enough of her.

January was a great month. Mandy visited for a week and we had some great Disney time with her. Then, we had a few weeks with Lucy without any visitors. It was the first time since Lucy was born that we had the house to ourselves for longer than a week. Our friend, Mike, was in Florida for Detroit Tigers fantasy camp, so we took an afternoon to meet up with him and introduce Lucy. She’s getting to meet tons of friends already! We also took Lucy to daycare for the first time last week. It was difficult to hand her off to someone else, but we feel very comfortable with the facility and the people there. And, hopefully, she’s making new friends!

Hi...I’m a Mac

Our new Macbook Pro arrived, after quite some time of fighting with our aging iMac. The iMac lasted for over four years (and is still kicking as a second household computer), but it was time for an upgrade. You can see a few photos as the MacBook Pro Arrives.

This new machine is an amazing little piece of equipment, and it’ll let us share more photos and video online at a fraction of the time the old computer would take. That gives us more time with little Lucy! And who wouldn’t want that?

Speaking of, here’s a great photo of Lucy...
